I have been to Dubrovnik three times now and although there is always something new to discover I also have my favourite things I love to return to each time. There are things I never get bored of and always recommend to anyone I know who goes there, so I thought I would share my top things to do in Dubrovnik with all of you. This post is just focusing on what to do in the Old Town, I have plenty more tips on where to go for day trips but that is for another post!
Walk the Walls
If you do nothing else while visiting the Old Town make sure you walk around the walls. It is by far my top thing to do in Dubrovnik as it gives you some fantastic views and a totally different perspective of the area. My only tip for doing this would be to try and get there early as not only does it get quite busy but the heat in the afternoon can be something else during the height of summer.
Visit War Photo Limited.
If you are interested in the Yugoslavian war and how that was documented by war photographers then visiting War Photo Limited should be on you list of things to do in Dubrovnik. Not only does it give you an insight into the war that took place in the 1990’s they often have other exhibitions documenting conflict in other parts if the world through photography. Although, not exactly a cheery place to visit, it is wonderful for helping understand the relatively recent conflict that happened in the area.
Drink some local wine in D’vino Wine Bar
We never miss a chance to go D’Vino Wine Bar when we visit Dubrovnik. This well loved bar is great for learning about Croatian wine, which is truly delicious! The place is small and can get very busy due to it’s popularity but if you can grab yourself a seat it is well worth it. If you are unsure what to try there are various different tasting flights you can try and they also offer wine and food pairings!
Watch the sunset with a cold beer
Step through a gateway in the walls to Cafe Buza, a wonderful cliff top beer perfect for getting yourself fully immersed in the holiday mode. Get there early if you want to watch the sunset as the place fills up fast!
Explore the backstreets
The Strada is where all the tourists from the cruise ships flock to during the day but it is easy to escape the crowds by exploring the backstreets, you will find quirky shops and restaurants and even a friendly cat or two!
Grab yourself a seat outside one of the coffee shops or bars along the Strada and just watch the world go by while sipping on a beverage of your choice! Plus, in the summertime there are thousands of swallows flying about above creating a lovely atmosphere.
I hope you enjoyed my quick list of top things to do in Dubrovnik. I will be sharing my top day trips very soon so keep an eye out!
